I graduated with my certification in Business Administration in December 2020 and joined Shuswap Orthodontics in the following spring as the Financial & Promotions Coordinator. I am responsible for finances, promotions, and administrative tasks while working alongside my colleague Ashley at the front reception desk. My position here has been a great opportunity to highlight my schooling credentials, take on new challenges, and develop my skills both in and out of the office. I am grateful to be a part of such a dynamic team; I’m happy to play a role in keeping the workplace a positive, efficient, proactive, and purposeful place.
Although I was born and raised in the Greater Vancouver Area, I have grown to adore it here and admire Shuswap Orthodontics’ continuous effort of supporting locally and contributing to the community. When I’m not at the workplace I enjoy cooking and baking, playing games with friends, and going on road trips accompanied by good playlists and the beautiful scenery the Shuswap has to offer.
Originally from Edmonton, I became a registered dental assistant at KDM Dental college in 2018 and took my orthodontic module at the University of Alberta. I moved to the Shuswap in September 2021 and was lucky enough to join Shuswap Orthodontics as a Certified Dental assistant shortly after. In my spare time, I like to do pottery, forage, and play games with my friends. Living in the Shuswap has brought me many opportunities that I thought I would never have, so I am very grateful to live here!
I am new to the dental field and am super thankful to be part of such a fun team! Every day I am learning something new and am always amazed at the results of patients’ beautiful smiles. The Shuswap Ortho team truly does amazing work and strives for perfection.
I moved to the Shuswap in 2021 from the southern Okanagan and immediately fell in love with the area and all the great outdoor opportunities the Shuswap has to offer. Outside of work, you can find me hiking with my dogs, paddling the beautiful lakes around the Shuswap, or busy at home on our hobby farm.
I earned my dental assisting certificate from Okanagan University College in 1996 and completed my Orthodontic Module in 2002 from the University of British Columbia. As a member of our assisting team, I work hard to ensure that all patients feel comfortable and valued, whether they are just starting out with records or getting their braces removed. It is so gratifying to see how a beautiful smile can improve the self-esteem of our patients.
Our office is proud to be a positive part of our community. Dr. Broadwell strives for perfection; he cares about his patients and his results are amazing. Our team accomplishes so much in a day and has time for everyone who passes through our doors. We constantly work to provide the best care for each and every patient.
My husband Brent and I have two sons, Ethan and Isaac, as well as three crazy cats. As a family, we spend our time dirt biking and playing lacrosse. When I have free time, I enjoy the many hikes in the Shuswap area thanks to the local Trail Alliance, the many beaches, and all that makes this the most beautiful place on earth.
My journey into orthodontics began as a clinical assistant and I was hooked right away, I loved being a part of a team that worked together to create perfect smiles. I then became a certified dental assistant at the University of the Fraser Valley in 2014 and took the orthodontic module at UBC in 2015. I worked in an orthodontic practice in Abbotsford for 4 years before my husband and I moved to the beautiful Shuswap and I was lucky enough to join the team here. My job is so rewarding as I get to form relationships with patients and see them through every step of their journey to a beautiful smile!
I live in Blind Bay with my husband, Matt, and our two cats. We are so thankful to be able to call the Shuswap home. Outside of work I love spending time camping, hiking and enjoying the lake!
I am here to assist patients and parents during their initial office visit and ensure their experience is both pleasant and informative, and that when they leave the office, they have all the information they need to proceed and feel confident in the decision they are making. I started working in our office in 1989 as a non-certified assistant, then took my Orthodontic Module at UBC in 1992. I have truly worked in every single position in the office from sterilizing, assisting, reception, financial, and now treatment coordinator and office manager.
We have an amazing team in that we truly all enjoy each other and really do have fun each and every day we come in to work. I have been so fortunate to work with two doctors that do incredible work and are passionate about their profession, and a staff that all strive to make every patient feel comfortable and well cared for.
My daughter, Kasey, and I are fortunate to be living in the county and enjoy camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, and gardening. When we are not off exploring, we can be found spending time with family or playing around with the horses, always with our dog, Mischief, in tow.
After being away from practicing dentistry for almost 20 years to raise my family, I am very glad to have the opportunity to be back. As of September 2021, I joined Shuswap Orthodontics as a chairside dental assistant and am loving seeing patients again. I enjoy connecting with patients of all ages and hope I make their visits enjoyable.
I love nothing more than spending time with my family and friends whom I consider to be just as close as family. I adore all things crafty, and one of my favorite ways of expressing that is in decorating my home whether it be throughout the seasons, celebrating life events and milestones, or just for fun. I love going on drives that turn into adventures; it is something that I look forward to with my loved ones every Sunday (or any day of the week actually!).
For me, being an orthodontist is the best job in the world! I get to help people look better and improve their confidence. We also take great pride in our ability to create a healthy and stable bite, which is just as important as a fantastic smile! Our patients are happy to be here, and that makes for a fun work environment. We are serious about orthodontics…but we don’t take ourselves too seriously!
The team here at Shuswap Orthodontics is the core of the practice. I am the architect of your smile, and they are the contractors. I could not do this without them, and I consider the team as my partners on a mission to enhance lives.
Ok, here is where I brag about myself a bit!
After completing my undergraduate studies at Louisiana State University, I attended dental school at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. I went on to practice general dentistry for 7 years while earning two fellowships along the way. I was then accepted to a five-year combined residency program in Orthodontics (tooth movement) and Prosthodontics (tooth replacement) at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where I was chief resident and recipient of the Patel Award in Orthodontics. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and am one of the few dual-certified orthodontist / prosthodontists in the United States.
I typically acquire over 100 hours of continuing education per year. My wife would call it an obsession, but I have always enjoyed learning and teaching. Throughout my career, I have been awarded four different fellowships in dentistry and have successfully challenged five different boards. I have given several presentations to various dental associations in North America and abroad.
At this time, my efforts in continuing education focus on contemporary orthodontic techniques, temporomandibular joint disorders, and growth modification for the purposes of facial balance and airway improvement. Knowledge is truly power, and in healthcare, power translates into helping people. The more you know, the more you can leverage information to improve lives. And improving lives feels pretty cool!

I was born waaaay down in Louisiana, but I spent much of my childhood growing up in central Wyoming, playing hockey, soccer and doing a bit of skiing. It was during that time in my life when I fell in love with the mountains and snow (the wind, not so much!). I migrated back down south for educational purposes but always had a longing to get back to a cooler climate with four seasons.
I have been fortunate to be married to my lovely wife, Jennifer, since 2002. We have two very active children, Estelle and Oliver. We all enjoy spending time outdoors, biking and boating in the summer, and skiing at Revelstoke all winter. My family and I feel extremely fortunate to call Salmon Arm home. Every day in the Shuswap feels like we are on vacation. This is truly an outdoor paradise!
Thanks so much for your interest in our practice, and we look forward to meeting you in person!
